The 45th Parallel: upcoming exhibit, opening reception

I'm having a big show at Newspace Center for Photography opening November 4th. Hope you can make it to the opening and come back to visit the work often during the month of November! Above is the postcard, below are the details (from our press release):
Author Lisa Wells, and photographer Bobby Abrahamson have teamed up to document struggling small towns in rural Oregon. On Friday November 4th, from 6-9pm, they will present the result of their collaboration, The 45th Parallel, at the Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, Oregon. Nick Jaina will play a solo set, the author will read from her manuscript, and the photographer will discuss his prints. This project is supported by a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council.

The 45th Parallel profiles three endangered rural towns in Oregon, focusing on economic depression and rising energy deficits that render rural life increasingly more difficult to sustain. The series includes interviews with local residents, essays by author Lisa Wells, and portraits of residents by photographer Bobby Abrahamson. On November 4th Wells and Abrahamson will give a Q & A, and Wells will read from her manuscript. Abrahamson’s prints will be on display in the Newspace Center for Photography’s Special Exhibitions Gallery through November 27th.

Lisa Wells
Lisa Wells lives in Portland, OR. A writer whom Derrick Jensen calls “an extraordinary young talent,” Her first book, Yeah. No. Totally. was released this summer by Perfect Day Publishing. Wells has previously published in Coldfront, Gently Read, The Nervous Breakdown, Plazm,Ecotone, Dunes Review and 400 Words. She’s received fellowships from Caldera Arts, Hypatia House, and the Vermont Studio Center.

Bobby Abrahamson

Bobby Abrahamson, is a documentary photographer living in Portland, Oregon. His career has included countless solo and group shows across the globe. He's shot for TIME, Fortune, and The New York Times, among others. He has an M.A. in Media Studies from The New School, with a focus on documentary history, theory and criticism. His book, One Summer Across America, was described as; a perfectly sequenced exploration of the American character, expressed not by isolation, but landscape, partnership, and belonging.
